Barbara graduated from the Yale University School of Drama in 1980 with a Master of Fine Arts in Theater Design and Technology. Her thesis work interfaced construction and materials handling hardware manufacturers’ standards and installation guidelines with performance rigging applications. This proved to be a seminal work in establishing stage rigging industry standards for performance rigging systems.
Joining the technical staff at The Juilliard School in Lincoln Center (1980) as the Stage Department’s Production Manager, she directed the technical support activities in four different performance venues, coordinating the requirements of stage directors, designers, performers and technicians.
In 1982 Barbara participated in the formation of PDO. At its founding, PDO integrated greater industry standards into its rigging system designs, galvanizing an effort by quality performance rigging manufacturers to establish and put forth a rational industry standard of installation practice. Since that time, PDO has been in the vanguard of the performance rigging industry, promoting and practicing an unrivaled level of safety in its design and installations.
